Let me just say I loved this MV. On the first play, I thought it was beautiful but strange, and the dancing scenes were awkward. But as I read through comments, and watched it again, I grew to love it.

I read a user’s comment about the interpretation of the MV and the MV then made sense to me after. The whole MV is all symbolism.

Big Bang is actually making a LOVE SONG for the world!

  • Cracks on land – earthquake (i.e. natural disasters)
  • ‘Fuel Entrance’ – depleting natural resources
  • ‘Kostel P Marie sign’ – increasing irrelevance of religion
  • Burning bunny(?) – child abuse/prostitution
  • Wrecked cars – war
  • The falling car – the end of mankind

In my opinion, I think YG spending $200,000 US on the production of this MV was a bit too much and wasn’t really justified. I think it would’ve been more justified if there was a storyline to it rather than just huge explosions and wrecks, despite the symbolism behind it. But I gotta admit, I love this MV for several reasons. First off, it looks so baller that YG splurged so much on it when you watch it. The cinematography and camera work was amazing and it seemed like it was all done in one continuous shot. I especially loved how each member would leave after their part, and the camera would pan/zoom on another member walking in in such a smooth way. According to allkpop, each individual scene was filmed for the entire song length which is why along with amazing editing, it may have seemed it was done in one take. The whole black suits concept and grey-scale tone also added a mature and artistic cinema feel to it. It may also have to do with the interpretation of the symbolism behind the MV, being a solemn theme due to the serious issues within the MV. This MV is definitely one of a kind and quite possibly the first in K-POP history to make a debut. Big Bang has made another first in K-POP.

The only other small complaint I have is the dancing was not in sync in the MV. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t edit it, or have the boys re-do that part, especially since the whole MV is likely not shot in one take. It seems like such a waste to have such a noticeable flaw in a beautiful and what could have been, flawless, MV.

But at the end of the day, it seems like YG is going all out with Big Bang’s comeback. What with the $200,000 US production fee for “Love Song” MV, the massive promotion budget (most notably the full ads on buses and huge subway station ads) and the breaking countless guitars on the “Tonight” live performances. And that’s OK I suppose because YG can afford to splurge and it helps with differentiating Big Bang from others and making more “firsts” in the K-pop industry.
