Well…not really TVXQ, just Yunho and Changmin (aka HoMin). I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but whatever it was, this MV and song exceeded my expectations way way way beyond.
I love their concept, though I’m not exactly sure how to describe it…very masculine; somewhat rocker style…hard, tough, manly concept? Whatever it is, I love it. It fits well with Changmin’s powerful vocals and Yunho’s manlier vocals and appearance; also a good match with the genre of the song. One thing I’m glad about even if they only have 2 right now, is that at least Changmin has great powerful, explosive vocals and Yunho is an exceptional dancer. Both have strong capabilities in different areas that can complement each other. Whereas JYJ is more soft vocal-based (I know they have explosive vocals too, but Changmin is more known for that).
I also loved their choreography! It fit very well with the song, especially the chorus part where a deep husky voice goes “Keep your head down” and the dancers slide their head back while kneeling down and HoMin at the back gives me a memorable dance imagery. Props to Rino Nakasone! One of the choreographers for this awesome dance piece, she’s also one of my favorite choreographers!
I love all 5 of them, but if I had to pick which one I prefer, I personally prefer JYJ. Even though I’m saying this, I feel that JYJ’s Ayyy Girl vs. TVXQ’s Keep Your Head Down, TVXQ wins hands down. Ayyy Girl was just a poorly produced MV plus the song wasn’t even that good in my opinion to be a title track. I felt they could’ve done so much better - made a better MV, picked a different track to be the title, because they have much better songs in their album than Ayyy Girl.
I’ve read a lot of Cassie comments saying why is HoMin allowed to use TVXQ and slight complaints about it (I also had some slight complaints myself, because when I see articles saying TVXQ is back! I think it’s the 5, and get disappointed after). TVXQ is registered under SM Entertainment. SME has the right to use that name for the artists and a Cassie brought up a very good point, which is, if HoMin were to operate under a different name, then TVXQ would be “gone”. Of course I hope that is not the case, but she’s right. At least this way, TVXQ still somewhat exists. I just hope they come back together again as 5, and everyone keeps saying “Keep the faith”, but how likely is it that they will come back together under SM? I’ll have to do a bit of research because I haven’t been following them through all the lawsuits…
